Upcycling Workshop: Redesigning Clothing with Knitting and Crochet Elements, Visible Mending, or Sashiko

Your old favorite pieces don’t have to disappear into the closet. In this creative upcycling workshop, we’ll give clothes a new lease on life and transform them into one-of-a-kind pieces. Using simple knitting and crochet techniques, we’ll redesign sweaters, jackets, T-shirts, jeans, or accessories and add personal touches. A tear in your jeans, a stain on your T-shirt, a shirt collar that’s seen better days—in this playful workshop, we’ll dive right in with visible mending and sashiko—using just scissors, a needle, and thread, with no sewing machine at all! 

Whether it’s colorful appliqués, crocheted pockets, knitted cuffs, decorative inserts, or creative embellishments—together we’ll discover a wide range of ways to enhance and sustainably transform existing clothing. The focus is on creativity, a spirit of experimentation, and the mindful use of resources.

The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience in knitting or crocheting. Basic techniques will be explained, and participants can bring their own ideas to life with guidance.

Together, we’ll discover just how much fun it is to breathe new life into textiles. Whether you’re a beginner or have had some initial success—what matters here is free, creative expression in a relaxed atmosphere. Materials: I’ll bring the needles, embroidery floss, and fabric scraps

Workshop goal: To create something new from existing clothing—sustainable, creative, and entirely personal.

Suitable for beginners; basic knowledge required.

We’ll meet three times on Wednesdays, from 3 to 5 p.m. each time.
The workshop will take place at Woll Duo, Parkstraße 56 in Düsseldorf.
