Urlaub in Köln | Der Rhein und die Feuerwehr | Radtour
In the organizer's words:
🚒 The Rhine and the fire department
📅 Saturday, July 18, 2026 - 3 pm | 🚲 Bike tour
Some of the Cologne fire department's operations on and along the Rhine are legendary. Whether during floods, on burning ships or freighter collisions. Between Mülheim Bridge and Deutz Harbour, we cycle along the banks at a relaxed pace and visit the fireboat in Deutz Harbour at the end. With around 400 ships passing by or anchoring in Cologne every day, the Cologne fire department has a lot to do.
There have been a few challenges in the past: The rescue from height from the Cologne cable car high above the Rhine, a collision of cargo ships in dense fog, assistance at World Youth Day (pilgrims swam after the Pope), the devastating ice flood in 1784, the security measures for Bill Clinton at the World Economic Summit, the "rescue from height" of two tourists from the top of the pylons of the Severinsbrücke bridge and fire-fighting work on the "Prinses Irene", a Dutch wooden excursion ship. Finally, we visit the fireboat in Deutz harbor.
