Urlaub in Köln | Der Südfriedhof – Eher Park als Friedhof | zu Fuß
In the organizer's words:
Winding paths, huge trees, more like a park: Cologne's largest cemetery covers an area the size of more than 80 soccer pitches. Numerous celebrities have found their final resting place at the Südfriedhof, including sportsmen such as world champion Hans Schäfer, boxer Peter Müller, known as "Müllers Aap", and Karl Berbuer, composer of the "Trizonesien-Song" and "Heidewitzka, Herr Kapitän". The generously laid out cemeteries of honor for the victims of the world wars and the impressive Commonwealth Cemetery are also impressive. This is certainly the best-kept piece of public greenery in the entire city of Cologne.
On a tour of the cemetery, we get to know parts of the huge area and hear the stories of the dead buried here.
