Verhüllen und Offenbaren

Coverings are everywhere: People elegantly cover their bodies and companies cover their products for advertising purposes. From the wrapped gift on the gift table to the countless rituals of wrapping in all religions, there is an important message in the mode of wrapping: by wrapping something, it is made visible.
The hidden remains present; it is hidden from view, but still present. This has been demonstrated particularly impressively by Christo's art actions in recent decades.

Dr. Dominik Meiering is an inner-city priest and cathedral chaplain in Cologne. After studying theology, philosophy and art history, he worked as a youth pastor and vicar general to the Archbishop of Cologne. Meiering's dissertation "Verhüllen und Offenbaren" (Veiling and Revealing) deals with the tradition of veiling in theology and art history, in particular with Christo and Jeanne-Claude's 'Veiled Reichstag'.
