Vernissage // Die Linie: meine Sprache - Gianmarco Ammirata

In the organizer's words:

The exhibition "The line: my language" presents minimalist drawings by Gianmarco Ammirata, architect and artist. The exhibition will take place from April 30 to May 23 at Gallerie Kungerkiez in Berlin.

Ammirata's artistic practice is deeply rooted in architecture, in which the line functions as a central means of expression. The act of drawing becomes a process of research and development of its own visual language, which consists of primary graphic elements and goes beyond its purely figurative dimension.

The exhibited works move between abstraction and structure: spaces, surfaces and patterns capture the relationships between mind and body. Traces of presence emerge, which manifest themselves in an elementary gesture - the line. In its reduction, it opens up new spaces of perception and invites the viewer to a quiet, concentrated examination.

Gianmarco Ammirata lives and works as an architect and artist in Berlin. His works combine architectural thinking with a clear, reduced visual language in which structure, rhythm and perception meet. He was invited as a guest to participate in a workshop at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation (2019) and also gave a lecture at the CIAM conference in Bergamo (2019). He has also worked as an academic tutor at the Politecnico di Milano (2022) and at HafenCity University Hamburg (2023).

The exhibition opens on April 30 with a vernissage and ends on May 23 with a finissage. An artist talk will take place on May 2, during which the artist will discuss his artistic practice on site in the gallery.

During the exhibition period, the gallery will become a space for experimental practice on Saturday afternoons: James Etherington (composer) and Mehdi Hesamizadeh (composer and sound artist) will create four live music installations in which music and drawing enter into an open dialog - different artistic languages that permeate and expand each other.

The event will conclude on Saturday, May 23, with the presentation of the book of the same name. Together with Martin Ortega (German lecturer and playwright), the exhibition will end with a personal contribution and a reflection on the book.
