Lucie Marsmann questions the private photo archive of her grandparents from a contemporary perspective. Ulla & Willi is not only a testimony from the post-war period of the Federal Republic of Germany, but also a personal portrayal of family and relationship(s) and a reflection on remembering.

Lucie Marsmann, born in 1982 in Wuppertal, is a visual artist and photographer. She studied photography and media at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, where she graduated in 2010. From 2006 to 2019, she was an active member of the Bielefeld Künstlerhaus and the Artists Unlimited association. She currently lives and works in Berlin. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Marta in Herford, Fotobookfestival in Kassel, Breda Photofestival, UNSEEN Photofestival in Amsterdam, Atelierhaus Museion in Bolzano Italy and HANSEartWORKS in Bergen Norway. In her artistic work she often deals with the theme of identity and has been working for years with archive material and the photographic estate of her maternal grandparents.

In times shaken by crises, art offers all kinds of possibilities to defy the distracted course of the world. One of these lies in the conscious reversal of aggression and roughness. The musicians from Cologne have opted for precisely this approach - and consequently named their band after a heart-warming virtue: Tenderness is the credo of the present.
