Vokal Ensemble Batumi: Georgische Stimmen zu Gast in der Thomaskirche Leipzig
In the organizer's words:
On November 7, 2026, a special musical event awaits you at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig: To mark its 35th anniversary, the Batumi Vocal Ensemble —the State Choir of the Georgian region of Adjara—will perform a unique concert in one of Leipzig’s most beautiful churches.
Look forward to a moving program featuring traditional Georgian chants, 20th-century songs, and sensitive arrangements of works by great German composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Schubert.
The selected songs reflect Georgia’s cultural diversity and offer a fascinating insight into Georgian polyphony—one of the world’s oldest choral traditions. They tell of love, dance, and community, of the beauty of nature, and of deep faith.
With its expressiveness and unmistakable richness of sound, Georgian choral music captivates people around the world and is now recognized as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Let the powerful voices of the singers transport you into the fascinating world of Georgian sound. Experience an evening full of emotion and musical depth—true music of the soul that touches hearts and transcends boundaries.
