Josef Edenhofer, local brewer and landowner. He amassed a considerable fortune during his lifetime, but even that could not spare him from the final journey that awaits us all. The invited mourners gather at the local tavern on the evening of the funeral. The deceased loved to celebrate—and did so well—a fact that is to be honored once again with a hearty funeral feast. But suddenly… A gunshot! Commotion in the room… a flurry of activity? Was someone hit? Is anyone in danger? Where did the shot come from?

Anselm Grabengräber, chief detective of the local homicide division, is called in; he is known for being eccentric, nitpicky, and headstrong. In his own unique way, Anselm begins to investigate, leaving no detail unchecked. With the indirect help of the diligent medical examiner Ulrike Biop-Sien, the two stumble upon surprising clues that raise one question after another. Did Josef Edenhofer perhaps not die of natural causes after all?
