Vorlesung im Kolleg: Der Freistaat Sachsen im Superwahljahr 2024

The elections to the European Parliament will take place on June 9, 2024; on the same day, the city and municipal councils as well as the district councils will be elected in Saxony. A quarter of a year later - on September 1 - the people of Saxony will decide on the future composition of the state parliament and the mathematical possibilities for forming a governing coalition. The 'Sunday polls' as a snapshot of the political mood in the state suggest exciting elections: firstly, as in 2019, there are signs of a neck-and-neck race for first place. Secondly, other parties with single-digit results are close to the five percent threshold and will have to fight to (re-)enter the state parliament.
In addition to a discussion of the European and local elections, the lecture will look at the situation just under a quarter of a year before the state elections: What do the results of the European and local elections mean for the state parliament vote? How does the situation compare to Brandenburg and Thuringia, where state elections will also be held in September?

Four days after the European and local elections, the lecture with Dr. Hendrik Träger will summarize the most important election results in Saxony and discuss their political implications, including for the Saxon state elections in 2024.
