Vortrag: „Krisenfest durch Wind und Sonne?“ mit Prof. Volker Quaschning

The City of Heidelberg, in collaboration with the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) at Heidelberg University, invites you to the event “Resilient Through Wind and Sun? – The Potential of Renewable Energy in Times of Global Crises” on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The speaker is Prof. Dr. Volker Quaschning, Professor of Renewable Energy Systems at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and co-founder of Scientists for Future. The event will take place in the Large Physics Lecture Hall, Im Neuenheimer Feld 308, 69120 Heidelberg.

Energy Supply in Times of Global Crises

Prof. Quaschning will explain in accessible terms the role that renewable energy can play in ensuring a secure, sustainable, and crisis-resilient energy supply. Among other things, he will address the question of what an energy supply based on renewable energy might look like, the roles played by heat pumps, green hydrogen, storage systems, e-fuels, and gas-fired power plants, and the changes needed in the areas of electricity, heating, and transportation. Prof. Jale Tosun from the Heidelberg Center for the Environment will begin with a brief political science overview of the topic.

The lecture is open to anyone interested. Participation is free of charge; registration is not required.

Volker Quaschning is a professor of renewable energy systems at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and a co-founder of Scientists for Future.
