Vortrag: Nina Berman »HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH CENSORSHIP? DOCUMENTING THE U.S. AUTHORITARIAN PROJECT«
In the organizer's words:
In her lecture “How to Photograph Censorship? Documenting the U.S. Authoritarian Project,” photographer and professor Nina Berman discusses her life and work in the United States and reflects on how documentary practice can continue under increasingly authoritarian conditions.
Drawing on her experiences at Columbia University, where she has directly witnessed the consequences of state and institutional repressive measures, Berman asks how restrictions on freedom of expression and academic freedom can be made visible through photography, especially when censorship remains invisible, manifests itself in bureaucratic processes, or cannot be directly documented for reasons of self-protection.
The lecture will be held in English.
