Vortrag und Besichtigung: Tod und Jenseitsvorstellungen im Alevitentum
In the organizer's words:
Alevis are a religious and cultural community with roots in present-day Turkey. After Christians and Muslims, they form the third-largest religious community in Germany. Their practices and beliefs date back to the pre-Christian cultures of Anatolia and Mesopotamia and are largely unknown in this country.
This lecture will explore the Alevi perspective on death as part of the divine cycle of becoming and passing away. It will explain that in Alevism, death is not understood as an end, but as a transition—the soul returns to God (Hak). Key aspects of the faith will be discussed, such as the unity of all being (Vahdet-i Vücud), the concept of rebirth (Devriye), how grief and death are dealt with in everyday Alevi life, as well as funeral rituals and customs. The focus is on the spiritual and communal nature of this perspective, which offers comfort and meaning within the cycle of life.
