Not only women, but also men were involved in the first women's movement in Cologne. They were members of associations that campaigned for more rights and opportunities for girls and women. They gave lectures at the associations or wrote books about the situation of women.
This lecture by Dr. Daniela Wagner, curator of the current exhibition, deals with the motives of the men who were involved in the first women's movement and the question of why women allowed this involvement. The limits of men's participation in the first women's movement will also be discussed.
The lecture is part of the accompanying program to the exhibition "Pioneers of Change - the First Women's Movement in Cologne", of the Historical Archive with the Rheinisches Bildarchiv, which you can still see until 22 March 2026.
