WALDESRUH – Einzelausstellung Helge Hommes

From 08 September to 28 October 2023, Galerie Koppelmann presents the Ramboux Prize-winning artist and environmental activist Helge Hommes for the first time again in the Rhineland after a long break.

The unmistakable expressiveness of his iconic images from the cycle Waldesruh builds from a radical reduction of the natural creature tree to its form and structure, the detachment of the object from its authentic environment and the transformation of the carrier of meaning into an almost heroic symbol.

Through the fragmentation and abstraction of the natural form in pasty furrowed energy-laden lines and the reduction to the colors black and white, Helge Hommes creates works that seem almost zen-like in the tension between soundless silence and powerful discharge.
