Walter Bockmayer was the Millowitsch of the subculture and Cologne's Fassbinder. He made films, wrote plays and acted himself. In 1975, he opened the "Filmdose", the legendary pub where he showed his plays. He developed his own style that combined 'high' and 'subculture', staging and living queerness in a way that was accessible to everyone. The queer theater collective Produktionsbüro Petra P. will be showing his play WALTER BOCKMAYER. DER ANDERE MILLOWITSCH at the Theater der Keller in Cologne. To mark the occasion, the Theater der Keller is organizing a small BOCKMAYER FESTIVAL in March 2026 in collaboration with the Düsseldorf Film Museum and the Theater in der Filmdose, which offers the opportunity to once again encounter the films, the theater work, the work and the impact of this avant-gardist of Cologne queerness.
