Hiking excursion: to the porphyry landscape near Gimritz

What awaits you

We meet at the main train station in Halle and take the bus to Wettin. From there, we will first hike through the Saale floodplain to Mücheln, where we can marvel at the legendary Templar Chapel. We then immerse ourselves in the untamed nature of the porphyry landscape - a unique refuge for flora and fauna and one of the geological hotspots in the Lower Saale Valley Nature Park. We pass the idyllic Lauchengrund with its legendary Devil's Pulpit and follow the tracks of the former Wallwitz-Wettin railroad line (1903 - 1971). The way back takes us across meadows and fields and presents us with sweeping views of the landscape and Wettin and its imposing castle. From there, we take the bus back to Halle. A short but beautiful tour just outside the city!

Meeting point: Halle (Saale) main station

Arrival: Bus journey approx. 40 minutes, without changing buses

Starting point of the hike: Wettin bus stop, Saalestraße

Destination: Wettin bus stop, Saalestraße (circular walk)

Length: 10 km

Elevation gain: 110 m (ascent), 110 m (descent)

Duration: 2.5 h pure walking time + stops for enjoyment and information or sightseeing (approx. 5 h in total)

Difficulty: easy-medium (the tour is also suitable for less experienced hikers)

Max. Group size: 20 people

Ticket price: 17 € (plus travel costs)

• You will receive the exact meeting point and arrival details approximately 2 weeks before the tour after booking your ticket.

Catering & tips

• We will take a longer break on the way - please bring something for a small picnic.
• Please make sure you have enough water with you.
• We meet at the main train station and travel together - this connects us and feels like a hiking day in the past. Of course, you can also come directly to the starting point of the tour if you prefer.
• Participation is at your own risk.
• The tour takes place in all weathers (except storms or similar) - so sturdy shoes, weatherproof clothing and a good mood are a must 😉
