Who doesn't long to pause and reflect on ourselves and our existence in the hectic times when we mostly just consume, scroll through Instagram or Facebook feeds?

With the series "Wart mal kurz" at Pure Note in Düsseldorf-Bilk, artist Sylvia Bratzik and blogger Henning Konetzke invite us to reflect with essays, poems and anecdotes. The special: Interference is expressly desired. The audience can interrupt the two at any time and intersperse their own thoughts. On these evenings, Pure Note becomes a space for reflection, ideas and networking with like-minded people.

Thurs. 11/23 8pm - "Generation offended: does political correctness make us more sensitive or more aggressive?"

The struggle for political correctness sometimes takes on forms that bear traits of a culture war. The demand for more consideration in language and understanding for marginalized groups is highly emotional, including shitstorms and the much-cited cancel culture. French feminist Caroline Fourest coined the term "generation offended" in the title of her book on identity politics. Does a higher sensitivity lead to a more aggressive way of speaking that inhibits argumentative exchange? Or is it about the legitimate concern of articulating suppressed voices? And what are those who call themselves a "majority society" and polemicize against PC and alleged speech bans with the supposed "voice of reason" aiming at?

What is all this about? Is it about non-discriminatory language? About the sovereignty of interpretation of social phenomena? About speech prohibitions or self-empowerment? We strive for objectivity and understanding in a debate determined by many affects.

Background on the artists:

Dr. Sylvia Bratzik, 38, has been part of the kunst+tonic community studio(www.kunstundtonic.de) on Brunnenstr. 35 since the summer of 2020. Together with the resident artists, she has already realized exhibitions at the Night of the Museums or at the Kunstpunkten. Her passion is abstract works on paper, but also socio-political topics such as femicide, which she has processed as a performance with the artist Glenda Pink, among others, as part of the Kunstpunkte 2021. With the artist Lara Rottinghaus she forms the artist duo "Rottzik"(www.rottzik.de), with whom she exhibited in the temporary exhibition space "Kö 106" in December 22 and February 23. She wrote her doctorate in theoretical physics in quantum information theory (quantum repeater) and then worked worldwide as an IT specialist and consultant in SAP. The Corona pandemic led her to question her own life and pursue the path as an artist she has dreamed of since her youth. Even the rejection of her application to the Düsseldorf Art Academy in March 2022 does not stop her from continuing to realize her ideas and projects.
