Was macht KI mit Tod?

In the organizer's words:

On infinity, memory and loneliness

In the series "What does AI do to...?"

Artificial intelligence makes it possible: we no longer have to be without our loved ones! While death used to be part of life, it is now more of an option: AI can be used to create avatars that make a certain degree of immortality possible. Whether via chat, voice imitation or even virtual reality - by being able to stay in contact with our loved ones after death, our relationships are changing. As a result, we no longer have to be lonely or grieve.

But how should we assess this digital immortality? What ethical questions arise if there is no longer a grieving process when a partner dies? Who takes responsibility for psychological processes that take place not in technology, but in us? And does it make sense to preserve ourselves for our children if something happens to us?

Together with you, we want to find an answer to the question of whether we want to beat death with the help of AI. Prof. Dr. Petra Grimm, Director of the Institute for Digital Ethics (IDE) at Stuttgart Media University, Anett Bommer, who uses an AI to communicate with her husband after his death, Lorenz Widmaier, who researches mourning in the digital age and Hans Block, author of the book "Eternal You - Vom Ende der Endlichkeit" and director of the film of the same name, will discuss this topic.

Moderation: Jasmina Neudecker

Afterwards you are cordially invited for a drink.

Free admission. Registration and further information HERE.

With "What does AI do to...?", the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS is shedding light on the impact of artificial intelligence on various areas of society. After topics such as truth and democracy, we will conclude the series with the topic: What do we do with the possibility of not completing life?
