Peter Somuah has a lot to tell: He grew up in Accra, the lively capital of Ghana, picked up the trumpet at the age of 14 and learned to play by asking around his home country and listening endlessly to his idols, above all Miles Davis. Today Somuah lives in the Netherlands and is very much in the tradition of West African storytellers. However, he largely manages without a voice or words. His mouthpiece is the trumpet.
In his compositions, Peter Somuah explores the boundaries between jazz, funk, soul and traditional Ghanaian music, peppered with a touch of electronic music. And Somuah is now presenting these global sounds for the first time with the WDR Big Band. This project is arranged and directed by the musical cosmopolitan Michael Mossman, who is internationally renowned as an arranger, trumpeter and bandleader.
