Thanks to the residency funding from the Fonds Darstellende Künste in cooperation with the Bündnis Internationaler Produktionshäuser, 21 artists and collectives had the opportunity to experiment and try out new concepts in practice. Now all participants and interested professionals are invited to reflect and exchange ideas.

A residency can be many things for artists: a place to work, a time to concentrate, a certain degree of freedom to devote themselves to their own art. Artists travel to other places and find inspiration there. At the same time, they represent their place of origin elsewhere. Behind this concept of the residency is a certain image of artists and their art. We want to question this image with regard to residencies at the theater.
How do the results of residency work become visible when artistic research is carried out rather than rehearsing for a performance? How can the residency at the theater initiate encounters that are essential for our artistic practice? At the opening of the two-day gathering WE ARE AT WORK, we will discuss how residencies need to be designed so that artists can make them their place and their time.
