RMS JazzOrchester feat. Ludwig Nuss (trb)

The RMS JazzOrchester under the direction of Martin Reuthner is finally making a guest appearance at the LOFT again after a long time and has invited Ludwig Nuss for the occasion. Performing on stage with this trombone star is a dream come true for any jazz ensemble, as the lead and solo trombonist of the WDR Big Band is one of the most sought-after guest soloists on the European big band scene. The RMS JazzOrchestra has now fulfilled this dream and will be presenting a cross-section of international big band literature together with Ludwig Nuss. A large part of the arrangements were penned by Dave Horler, who wrote the music for his long-time WDR colleague.

Ludwig Nuss studied in Cologne with Prof. Jiggs Whigham, initially worked as a freelancer in Cologne and was a member of the SDR Big Band in Stuttgart. In addition to his work as lead trombonist and jazz soloist in the WDR Big Band, Nuss is active in many areas of the German and European jazz scene. He gives concerts with Michael Abene in a trio with John Goldsby and Benyamin Nuss as well as in various quartets and quintets with Ingolf Burkhardt, Peter Weniger and Hubert Nuss. In addition to his work as a band musician, he is also involved in promoting young talent. Between 2007 and 2012, he was professor of jazz trombone at the Jazz Institute Berlin.

The RMS JazzOrchester, founded in 1970, is the jazz flagship of the Rheinische Musikschule der Stadt Köln. The band's sound and energy are on a par with professional orchestras, but it is also considered an important talent factory and has been a training ground for many well-known musicians on the German jazz scene. Young talents from the band regularly find their way to music academies and so it is no surprise that the RMS JazzOrchester is always on stage with stars of the scene who are only too happy to accept the invitation to make music together. An excerpt from the guest line-up reads like a "who's who" of big band jazz and also expresses the great affinity between the WDR Big Band and the RMS JazzOrchestra: Andy Haderer, Paul Heller, Dave Horler, Heiner Wiberny, Julia Zipprick, Hanno Busch, Claus Fischer, Bruno Müller, Rüdiger Baldauf, Alex Vesper, Karolina Strassmayer ...

A special accent will be set by the singer Emma Ross, who, in addition to her wonderful voice, will also bring her skills in composition and arrangement to the stage.

Emma Ross was a fellow of the WDR Composers Fellowship Program for two years and has already performed with the Frankfurt Dream Factory Jazz Orchestra and the WDR Big Band with the pieces she composed during this time. But the young singer not only has a heart for big bands, she has also been playing in a duo with Cologne bassist Gabriel Spindler for a year, with whom she won the WildCardContest in Wuppertal and played at the Jazzmeeting Wuppertal.
