Approaches: Talking about documentaries with children and young people

For the duration of a movie, there is an audience in the cinema. It shares a common film experience. But how the individual viewers perceive the films shown, what different thoughts, feelings or memories they pursue, often remains hidden. Film discussions can offer a space to approach aesthetic experiences linguistically and bring them into contact.

This brings together different perspectives. In the best case scenario, these encounters help us to question our own patterns of perception and set them in motion. How can we create spaces for discussion in which such encounters are possible? What forms of care do they require? Which questions inspire us to formulate impressions, enter into a relationship with the film and reflect together?

The one-day workshop seeks an exchange on these questions. The focus is on conversations with children and young people about documentary film.

Contents:
- the role and attitude of the moderator in film discussions
- the caring and discrimination-sensitive design of discussion spaces
- Principles of aesthetic film education

We will explore these topics both theoretically and practically with short exercises.

Target group: The training is aimed at people who conduct film talks themselves or would like to do so in the future. The focus is on film talks with children and young people, as the workshop prepares the participating filmmakers for this year's DOKFENSTER.
