This two-day workshop, exploring the practices of sampling and riffing, will examine how our local environment and archives can be a source for improvisation and collaborative sound art. Participants will be introduced to different histories of collage, sampling, riffing and improvisation and will then work through a series of activities to produce their own sound pieces. We hope that participants will begin to engage with issues of legibility, comprehension and palimpsest as they create sounds. We also hope that participants will take away strategies to further explore their environment and create multi-layered sound works.
