A small garrison town in the middle of the 19th century: the soldier Franz Woyzeck, mocked by his comrades, earns some extra money on the side to support his girlfriend Marie and his illegitimate son. At the same time, he is abused by a doctor for medical experiments for which he has to live on nothing but peas for months. When Marie then cheats on him with a drum major, his despair and jealousy are boundless.
