The "Elias Brieden Quintett" is a young jazz formation from Essen, Osnabrück and Cologne with a classic jazz line-up. The swinging rhythm section (drums, bass and piano) not only provides the basis for rousing, interactive solos from the trumpet and tenor saxophone, but also stands out with outstanding solos and joint playing. Although it is important to the band to swing and play in the jazz tradition, they also develop their own style and venture into jazz-related genres.
The repertoire of the band, which met in the NRW Youth Jazz Orchestra, ranges from Elias Brieden's own compositions to cleverly arranged bebop and postbop classics by Bird & Dizzy or Horace Silver, for example. We will certainly be hearing a lot more from this young band (scholarship holders of the Werner Richard- Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation) in the present and future!
