The Youngblood Brass Band defies convention—in an ecstatic, wild, and rousing way: It takes the format of a New Orleans brass band and transforms it into a punk-influenced hip-hop powerhouse full of groove and meaning. The ten-piece ensemble, founded in Madison, Wisconsin, now draws its members from all corners of the U.S. (New Orleans, Brooklyn, Nashville, Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles) and has been delivering a live demonstration of how to shatter genre boundaries worldwide since 1998.

What other band can claim that their music is spun by Questlove, collaborates with hip-hop greats like Talib Kweli and Mike Ladd, has its original compositions performed by marching bands and jazz ensembles around the globe and included in university curricula as well as state education programs—and yet still feels completely at home at a punk festival? Youngblood have headlined countless tours in the U.S. and abroad and sold out concerts in over 20 countries.

Their festival resume reads like a list of the world’s most significant music events: Roskilde, Glastonbury, Lowlands, Pukkelpop, SXSW, CMJ, North Sea Jazz, WOMAD … and so on. Their high-energy live shows have earned the band a reputation for being an unforgettable experience—whether in an intimate club or in front of thousands of fans on a festival stage.
