Award-winning composer Frank Nimsgern, together with director Benjamin Sahler and Aino Laos, has created a stirring new musical that will have its world premiere on our stage in 2024. With terrific new songs and intelligent quotes from the famous opera, his Magic Flute bridges eras and connects people of all ages. Musical fans can look forward to Patrick Stanke, Aino Laos, Misha Kovar, Tim Wilhelm and Christian Schöne in the leading roles.

KNOWN BY YOUNG AND OLD THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

With The Magic Flute, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart achieved a masterpiece in 1791 shortly before his death. The aria of the Queen of the Night and the song of the bird catcher are familiar even to those who have never seen the opera. It tells of the young prince Tamino, who is sent by the Queen of the Night to rescue her daughter Pamina from the mysterious Sarastro. Together with the bird catcher Papageno, he sets off and soon has to face three difficult trials ...

A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE ERAS

Frank Nimsgern has now clothed this story in a modern musical garment with a wealth of new songs of the most diverse styles, from rock to pop to Latin, in addition to a large symphonic score. Again and again interwoven with intelligently incorporated quotations from the famous opera. In Nimsgern's songs, harpsichord meets electric guitar, ballad meets rock song, and Viennese classical music meets the 21st century. Mozart fans can also look forward to a completely newly arranged aria of the "Queen of the Night".

The passionate love story surprises with unexpected twists and turns, and the familiar characters appear in a contemporary context. In the process, themes such as emancipation, racism and patriarchy are questioned and the boundaries of good and evil become blurred. In addition to the music, an opulent stage set, colorful costumes, rousing choreography lead the audience through an enchanting labyrinth of love, betrayal and adventure.

A DEEP BOW TO MOZART

His first visit to the "Magic Flute" remains an impressive memory for Frank Nimsgern to this day. For a long time, the composer of well-known musicals such as Jack the Ripper, The Ring, POE, The Man with the Laugh, 5 Grandshows at Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast such as "Qi" or "Elements " and SnoWhite wanted to approach Mozart's masterpiece. He says: "Basis is the original, from it my cinematic, kaleidoscopically expanded head cinema develops. I gave each scene and each archaic character in this composition a new musical color and its own musical style spectrum. And when I quote Mozart a time or two, it's with a deep bow."
