To mark World Refugee Day, Cinema Quadrat and Seebrücke Mannheim are screening a documentary about sea rescue in the Mediterranean - preview before the movie release!

For six weeks, director and photographer Jean-Baptiste Bonnet accompanies the Ocean Viking, a sea rescue ship in the Mediterranean. With haunting images, he shows the patient vigilance of the crew, the tension of rescuing refugees hoping for a future and in danger of drowning at sea. And he provides space for the voices of those rescued, for their stories of flight, loss and longing for safety. Bonnet's camera captures this special place between danger and hope - a timeless space at the gates of Europe.
Since 2016, almost 40,000 people have been brought to safety by the Ocean Viking, the rescue ship chartered by SOS Méditerranée.
