The other bookshop - read politically, browse differently

Der andere Buchladen has been a permanent address for critical, political and independent literature in Cologne for over 50 years. Originating from left-wing university contexts, the store has remained a place for counter-publicity, debate and inquisitive reading to this day.

Here you will find political non-fiction, philosophy, feminist and critical theory, history, psychology and literature from small and independent publishers - often outside the mainstream. There are also novels, crime novels, poetry, children's books and a small selection of political magazines.

We are a lively bookshop with an attitude: curious, open to discussion and open to contradictions. We read a lot, like to argue and believe that books cannot save the world, but they can make it easier to understand.

As a program bookstore, we regularly organize readings, discussions and book tables - and see ourselves as part of the city's political and cultural scene.
