Stop: Appellhofplatz

No wristband exchange / no Museum Night box office here!

The Kölnisches Stadtmuseum has moved from Zeughausstraße to the former fashion house Franz Sauer. But the museum is not only changing its address, but its entire concept. The new innovative and surprising permanent exhibition is not yet open - but a pop-up bar at the back of the new location is.

"Dä Dejool kütt! Adenauer and de Gaulle in Cologne 1962" The idea behind the pop-up bar LA FÊTE: an exhibition of historical photos in a club atmosphere with a live musical programme. The occasion of the Franco-German party is the 60th anniversary of the legendary visit of French President Charles de Gaulle to Cologne. Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer personally guided the guest through "his" city.

The people of Cologne were electrified: 100,000 people cheered the French president who, to the displeasure of the security, "took a bath in the crowd". The Gürzenich welcomed him with a gigantic Arc de Triomphe and an Eiffel Tower made of marzipan and chocolate. The ice between the "hereditary enemies" Germany and France was broken, followed in 1963 by the Élysée Treaty, which is still the basis of Franco-German friendship today.

At 8 p.m. a very special France special follows: the GENERAL rehearsal with curator Mario Kramp, Laurent Chevalier and Roland Hüve. You can expect a lively (!) guided tour through the bar exhibition "DÄ DEJOOL KÜTT", combined with French and Cologne chansons of the 1960s to sing along to - from Edith Piaf to Jaqcques Brel to Trude Herr. Lyrics will be distributed; knowledge of French or special musicality is not required. Suitable drinks will be available at the bar.
