The Vienna State Opera doesn't really need much of an introduction. It is one of the most famous opera houses in the world and, for many, the heart of Vienna's cultural scene.

The building on the Ring, opened in 1869, is impressive from the outside alone. Inside, you will find one of the most magnificent opera halls in Europe with around 1,700 seats and one of the most fascinating stages in the world. The Vienna State Opera works in repertoire, which means that there is hardly a night without a performance and the program changes daily. Around 50 different operas and ballets are on the program each season, performed by one of the best ensembles in the world, accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the orchestra pit.

What makes the house special is the sheer density of quality and tradition. Conductors, singers and directors from all over the world come here to perform. And then there is the Opera Ball, which transforms the State Opera into Austria's most glamorous ballroom every February.
