The Balance Festival started in Leipzig in 2018 as a platform for progressive club culture and transformative politics to strengthen marginalized, queer and feminist voices in club culture.

With an interdisciplinary approach of music, art and discourse, the festival brings together artists working at the intersection of these fields. Balance examines the potential that club culture can have for communities and political awareness in times of global crisis. We are interested in the role of club culture for community building and countercultures, especially in East Germany.

The 2024 festival edition will be intense, characterized by the endless tensions of our time. Club culture has often emerged from such tensions and has always been a place of refuge, a place where we can encounter a different reality - away from everyday dystopias. As a collective, we believe it is now more important than ever to reclaim clubs as places of counterculture for queer, feminist, anti-capitalist and decolonial utopias - untouched by the commercialization of nightlife. Self-isolation and clique mentalities will not resolve tensions. Our 2024 festival edition calls for people to come together again, to celebrate, discuss and vibe. You are invited to celebrate with us at UT Connewitz and DUQO from November 1 to 3, 2024 and to attend the admission-free discourse and workshop program at Garage Ost during the day.

Over 20 DJs, musicians, artists, activists and theorists who will contribute local and international perspectives in workshops, panels, lectures, live performances, concerts and a club night: This is Balance Club / Culture Festival 2024.
