221. Jour Fixe der Stiftung ex oriente mit Christian Y. Schmidt
In the organizer's words:
🚲 Cycling in the footsteps of Mao Zedong
What does China along Mao's Long March look like today?
Former Titanic editor and author Christian Y. Schmidt takes you on an extraordinary journey along the original route of Mao's Long March. Schmidt lived in Beijing for more than fifteen years and, with his numerous books, is one of the best-known German-language authors on China.
Together with Volker Häring, he cycled through spectacular landscapes, past rice terraces and old trading towns, crossed the Yangtze and fought his way up to the Tibetan plateau. The result is a fascinating travelogue between adventure, history and the present, which provides surprising insights into one of the most exciting and contradictory countries in the world.
At the same time, the journey follows in the footsteps of the legendary German Otto Braun, who played a key role in Mao's revolution in China.
You can look forward to an inspiring evening full of stories, historical background and personal observations from today's China. There will also be an opportunity to talk to the author afterwards. A book table will be set up to accompany the event, where the book The Long Bicycle March by Christian Y. Schmidt and Volker Häring will be available.
