30 Jahre Deutschlandradio - Historische Funkhausführung

Three became one: Deutschlandradio was created in 1994 from the stations RIAS and DS Kultur in Berlin and Deutschlandfunk in Cologne. In the historical tours for the anniversary year, you will learn about the history of Deutschlandradio and its predecessors.

How do you digitize a tape? And what did a radio studio look like in the 1960s?
In the radio house tour, you will visit historical locations in the Cologne radio house and take a look behind the scenes of the archive. In the archive, several kilometers of shelves provide a vivid insight into radio history and at the same time the future can be experienced in the radio archive.

The broadcasting center in Cologne

The Cologne Funkhaus was inaugurated in 1980 and, at 102 meters, was one of the tallest buildings in Germany at the time. Due to its significance in terms of urban planning and architectural history, the Cologne Funkhaus was granted protected status by the Cologne City Conservator's Office on January 29, 2024. Significant elements such as the Deutschlandfunk chamber music hall, the studios and control rooms built in this area, but also the special construction and arrangement of the high-rise building, base, ashlar construction and technology tower as well as exterior fronts and façade elements were placed under monument protection.
