Description:

Sebastian Weigle is already a familiar name at the Nationaltheater Munich from many opera performances. With Die Liebe der Danae, the internationally much sought-after artist recently rehearsed his first new production at the Bavarian State Opera, and now he is conducting an academy concert for the first time. The program includes two orchestral works whose virtuosity and richness of color showcase the instrumental skills of an orchestra in every respect: Modest Mussorgsky's only original orchestral composition A Night on Bald Mountain, a wild witches' sabbath, and the Organ Symphony by Camille Saint-Saëns, in which the State Opera's new organ is allowed to unfold its splendor. In keeping with the Bavarian State Orchestra's fine tradition of presenting its soloists in the Academy Concerts, solo trumpeter Johannes Moritz will perform Alexander Arutjunjan's Trumpet Concerto: a truly spectacular piece in which the Armenian composer combines elements of the folk music of his homeland with late Romantic harmonies and French flair - a captivating discovery.
