Isithunzi
In the organizer's words:
"Isithunzi" means "dignity" in Zulu - but it can also be translated as "spirit of death and renewal". The idea is that each of us has a connection to our ancestors and to a universal energy that gives rise to all life. Based on a text by Afrofuturism author Shanice Ndlovu, composer Monthati Masebe tells the story of three protagonists in search of connections to the past and their own identity. In her first music theater work, she invites cultural encounters, combines Western instruments with South African playing techniques and also appears on stage herself as a performer of electronic soundscapes.
