Siblings Adam and Amina Seid Tahir proved just how radically poetic a multidisciplinary performance can be with their internationally acclaimed work SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT BRAIDING MY WAY HOME at the 2023 Summer Festival. Now Adam Seid Tahir returns solo with the world premiere AND FROM THEIR HAIR, UNENDING FOREST, once again focusing on Nordic myths from a Black and queer perspective. The rune Thurisaz stands for the giants, who are considered enemies of the gods in Norse lore and are associated with chaos, threat and the Other. Tahir picks up on these attributions and draws parallels to the marginalization of people of colour. At the center is the murdered figure Ymir, an intersexual primordial being from whose body the world is said to have emerged. On stage, the body is transformed into weather and hair into endless forests. Anger and sadness, care and power combine to create an alternative narrative about the origin of the world. With an engaging language of movement and immersive sound, Adam Seid Tahir immerses the audience in an atmospheric world of legends and myths.
