The crew of the space freighter Nostromo - including third officer Ellen Ripley - is in an artificial deep sleep. Suddenly, their ship receives an SOS signal. The on-board computer then wakes the crew, who are soon led to an inhospitable planet by the call for help. The crew discovers the wreckage of an alien spaceship. One crew member is attacked by an alien that sucks on his face. The ship's doctor Ash manages to remove the alien organism, but the extraterrestrial being is far from defeated.
