An evening for freedom by Michel Abdollahi with guests
Do you really believe that watching is neutral?
As you read these lines, the future of freedom is being negotiated in Iran. Not at the round table, but on the tarmac. It is the first feminist revolution of our time, and it is irreversible. Iran is on the threshold of freedom - but this moment is as fragile as the glass in the windows of Tehran.
We do not know how this struggle will end. We don't know who will be allowed to breathe tomorrow. But we do know one thing: silence is the oxygen of tyrants.
This evening at the Schauspielhaus is not a classic cultural event. It is not a vigil to commiserate. It is an act of presence. When you fill this hall on March 8, on International Women's Day, you are doing more than just buying a ticket. You are sending a signal that will echo all the way to Iran: We see you. We do not forget you. We are the resistance that is possible here.
Come. Not because of the art. But because of the attitude.
We are bringing the voices, the images and the anger to the stage that are being nipped in the bud over there. Be there when Hamburg shows that solidarity is not just a post on Instagram, but also a physical space that we occupy together.
Iran is fighting. And what about us? We are watching now. With both eyes.
