Andreas Pietsch: Septembersonntag (Literaturtage Recklinghausen 2026)
In the organizer's words:
Andreas Pietsch: “September Sunday”
In 1918, the final year of the war, hunger and hardship are everywhere in the Ruhr region. To escape the worst of the deprivation, forty boys are sent to the countryside with their teacher for several months. Their journey takes them to Posen, where, far from home, they try to adapt to their unfamiliar circumstances. But one late-summer Sunday changes everything.
In his novel *Septembersonntag*, Andreas Pietsch tells a moving story of hope, loss, and the aftermath of World War I. Based on a true story, the novel combines historical facts with compelling storytelling and sheds light on a little-known chapter of German history.
The reading will be complemented by historian Dr. Sabine Grabowski, who will provide context for the historical background of the events and offer fascinating insights into the realities of life for people at the end of World War I.
A touching evening about war, humanity, and the fates that shape history.
