Anja Liedtke: Flügel wie Schiefer - Hundert Tage Hochgebirge (Literaturtage Recklinghausen 2026)
In the organizer's words:
Anja Liedtke: “Wings Like Slate – One Hundred Days in the High Mountains”
Author Anja Liedtke spent 100 days as a writer-in-residence in the Swiss Alps—inspired by the swifts that make the mountains their home for a short time each summer. This intense period gave rise to *Wings Like Slate*, a poetic book about nature, landscape, and the art of close observation.
With great attention to detail, Liedtke describes the flora and fauna of the high mountains, vast mountain meadows, and quiet hikes. She recounts rare encounters with Alpine salamanders and wolves, discovers surprising connections between the Alps and the Ruhr region, and uncovers historical traces of climate migration during the Little Ice Age.
Here, nature writing meets personal experience: nature observation, literary reflection, and ecological questions come together to form a vivid portrait of the mountain landscape and its inhabitants.
The reading will be accompanied by music from the multi-award-winning cellist Annette Rettich. Photographs from Anja Liedtke’s stay in Graubünden will complement the evening and bring her observations to life visually.
An atmospheric evening for everyone who loves literature, nature, and quiet stories.
