As is well known, since the Holocaust, no one in Germany has called themselves an anti-Semite—but anti-Semitism has never truly disappeared from Germany either. Since the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, however, anti-Semitic rhetoric and actions have surged. What are the causes of this, and why is it happening right now? From what different sources does hatred of Jews stem, and what images, claims, and myths do anti-Semitic narratives rely on? What role does the existence of the State of Israel play in this today? Are calls for boycotts against the Jewish state and anti-Zionism always anti-Semitic? How can one distinguish everyday criticism of government actions from anti-Semitism?
