Shortly before her breakthrough and a secure career as a celebrated R&B soul singer of the 1960s, Jackie Shane suddenly disappeared from the scene - but why?
With previously unreleased phone conversations, beautiful rotoscoped animation scenes featuring Sandra Caldwell as Jackie in later life and Makayla Couture as a young Jackie, and a fantastic soundtrack by Jackie herself, directors Michael Mabbott(The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico) and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee(Passing, Frameline39) reconstruct the fascinating life and immense talent of an exceptional artist who inspires and moves.

This documentary, executive produced by Elliot Page, explores the life of a Black trans woman who put her authenticity above all else - and continues to inspire trans people to be themselves, loud and proud.

Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story is this year's recipient of the Out in the Silence Award, which recognizes outstanding films that promote LGBTQ+ visibility in places where it is rare.
