»Augstein. Ein deutsches Leben« Ein Abend mit Martin Doerry & Hauke Janssen
In the organizer's words:
Host: Georg Mascolo
“Telling it like it is.”
Rudolf Augstein’s famous phrase set the tone. To mark the 80th anniversary of the weekly magazine *Der Spiegel*, Martin Doerry and Hauke Janssen—both former *Spiegel* journalists—are presenting the first source-based biography of the magazine’s founder. Previously unknown archival material reveals a liberal journalist and publisher who fought against Adenauer’s conservatism, clericalism, and corruption and became an icon of press freedom. But it also reveals a tormented life: war trauma, ambition, a thirst for power, political aspirations, and the struggle for national unity and greatness. An impressive biography and, at the same time, a panoramic view of a republic (C.H. Beck). The event will be moderated by former *Der Spiegel* editor-in-chief and investigative journalist Georg Mascolo.
