In the organizer's words:

ToleranceSpaces: by society for society - all of us for more respect and tolerance in our everyday lives.

The ToleranzRäume exhibition is coming to the center of German cities and invites people from all walks of life to experience and discuss how tolerance can work in our coexistence, but also where it has its limits.

After a year on a major tour of Germany, the exhibition is now coming to Berlin:
From 19.04. - 04.05.2024, visitors can view the exhibition free of charge daily from 08:00 - 20:00 at the Freizeitforum Marzahn.

ToleranzRäume are colorful exhibition containers that are placed in the heart of German communities. Their aim is to open up new perspectives to the public on the topic of tolerance, but also on the living environments of other people. Because empathy grows from understanding. Understanding is the basis for mutual respect.

An exhibition in public space

The topic of the exhibition affects each and every one of us every day, because we all want to be treated with respect and tolerance. The exhibition comes to the people and wants to encourage all visitors - from schoolchildren to pensioners - to think about questions such as "What is tolerance?", "How do I treat my counterpart with respect?", "How can we negotiate conflicts without violence?" but also "Where are the limits of tolerance?".

What can we tolerate?

Tolerance is also clearly seen as a matter of negotiation in the tolerance rooms. Not everyone has to or can tolerate everything. That is why the limits of tolerance are also examined: What can and will our society put up with? And what can I tolerate myself? Some foundations cannot and must not be shaken. This applies to our Basic Law and the fundamental rights it enshrines.

Inspiration for everyday life

Visitors should receive inspiration on how they can work for more respect and social tolerance in small and large ways. Because each and every one of us has the power to make our coexistence a little better. That is the most important message of ToleranzRäume.

The ToleranzRäume project is implemented by the Toleranz-Tunnel e.V. association together with the Kreuzberg Initiative against Anti-Semitism (KIgA e.V.). Bielefeld University (Faculty of Education; AG10) provides academic support for the project. There is also a six-member expert advisory board that advises and supports the project.
