To mark the 70th anniversary of the Goethe-Museum and the 150th birthday of Katharina Kippenberg, the Goethe-Museum Düsseldorf is showing "Out of the Shadows" in 2026. The exhibition on the Kippenberg Collection brings women of the Goethe era and Romanticism out of the shadows of tradition and into the light. Women writers, artists, translators, journalists and entrepreneurs emerge with poetic works, visionary imagery, emancipatory texts and political debates. Autographs, letters, portraits and books are systematically indexed and re-contextualized for the first time. The result is a new perspective on one of the world's most important private literary collections.
