Bex Burch

British-born, Berlin-based composer, percussionist, producer and instrument builder Bex Burch has used drums and handmade xylophones to create a unique sonic space for herself. Her relentless creativity and desire to take on new musical challenges on a variety of percussive instruments have led to her recordings being equally successful in the divergent worlds of avant-garde, post-punk, and improvisation. Burch has previously released music as part of Boing! along with Leafcutter John, and collaborated with renowned London artists such as Sarathy Korwar and Danalogue of The Comet Is Coming. Their collaborative album "Flock" was released through the prestigious Strut label. She also runs the band and label Vula Viel and has collaborated with artists from Peter Zummo to Dame Evelyn Glennie. Bex describes her sound as "messy minimalism." Her debut solo album, "There is only love and fear" (October 2023), released through Chicago-based avant-garde label International Anthem, is the result of her immersion in the label's creative community. She listened to what it gave her, made field recordings and let the music emerge from the collaborations and environments she experienced.
