"Images in the mind" - Sinti and Roma in the perception of the majority society

The lecture is dedicated to the question of how Sinti and Roma are perceived in society and which images play a central role in this. These perceptions are not only the result of individual prejudices, but are also deeply rooted in historical narratives and social structures. Antiziganism still has far-reaching effects on the lives of those affected today, be it in the form of discrimination, violence or social exclusion.
In this context, particular attention is paid to the topicality of the issue: how do today's media, popular culture and political discourse continue to shape the perception of Sinti and Roma? Which stereotypes are still present and how are they reinforced in current social debates? The lecture will shed light on these questions and discuss how discrimination-sensitive approaches can enable a more differentiated and respectful perception of Sinti and Roma communities.
