In the organizer's words:
With their duo project "Keeping Company", Bill Laurance and Michael League present a deliberate alternative to the orchestral widescreen sound of their multi-Grammy award-winning collective "Snarky Puppy". While League achieved world fame as the founder and visionary of the band and as a producer, Laurance has established himself as a pioneering pianist and composer between jazz and classical music. In this intimate constellation, the two exceptional musicians focus on maximum reduction and a deep musical dialog.
Instead of electronic energy, they concentrate on the pure: Laurance on the acoustic piano and League on the fretless bass guitar and the oriental oud. The oud in particular lends the program an archaic note that goes far beyond classical jazz. The compositions sound like sonic miniatures - organic, spontaneous and with a clarity that manages without technical effects. In this line-up, influences from soul jazz and world music flow together to form a warm whole. "Keeping Company" is an invitation to a personal dialog between two artists who place their virtuosity entirely at the service of atmosphere and melody.
