Café del Mundo
In the organizer's words:
Tens of thousands of visitors each year, standing ovations, and a fan following rivaling that of rock stars: The duo Café del Mundo is Germany’s most successful guitar export. With their unique blend of flamenco, classical, jazz, pop, and rock, Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian are completely redefining the classical instrument—the guitar.
They seem like “fire and water”—and it is precisely from this tension that they draw their magical energy. The protagonists, Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian, couldn’t be more different in their personalities, yet on stage they merge into a world-class unit. Their live performances are electrifying dialogues that regularly have the audience on their feet. The Süddeutsche Zeitung summed it up perfectly with the phrase “audibly boundless.”
Café del Mundo proves that the flamenco guitar can transcend traditional folklore. Their repertoire builds a bold bridge between worlds. Alexander Kilian, a certified jazz guitarist and “guitar prodigy,” explains the duo’s vision: “We see our contribution to the guitar as bringing this wonderful instrument into the mainstream of entertainment. Out of the niche—and on a global scale.” This vision has already brought them together at legendary venues such as Abbey Road Studios in London and for recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The duo Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian met in 2007 at a workshop. Since then, they have released over ten albums and established themselves as an integral part of the international instrumental scene. Their style blends Andalusian tradition with modern influences from pop, rock, and electronic music.
